Queer Women of Colour
By: Rania Rashid
we are the queer women of colour,
the ones who have history embedded in their skin,
and who carry vengeance in their blood,
the ones whom you are often intimidated by,
roses hidden under the sheath of thorns,
we are the unbreakable shackles,
flexible yet unyielding,
brave, robust, kind,
and everything else but weak,
thousands have come before us,
and thousands shall come after us,
to continue the legacy we leave behind,
the legacy of courage and strength,
of ambition, of power,
and of love,
the world will startle, and gasp in horror,
when our stories; the tales of our resilience,
are brought into the light,
we will keep fighting,
for the day when we won’t have to fight anymore,
when our worth,
would no longer be measured by our identities,
or sexual orientations,
we will fight for a world,
where we feel safe,
a place where we’re not treated as outcasts, but equals,
and when finally we’re done,
we’ll explode like a grenade,
because the magic inside us,
can only be contained for so long
